In several regions of Asia and North America, closely related species are nicknamed “Kamitetep.” They share this slender, almost ethereal silhouette, which immediately attracts attention. Why does its appearance surprise us so much? Let’s be honest: anything that even vaguely resembles a spider clinging to a wall sends a shiver down our spines. And the Kamitetep plays with our perceptions.
First, its long, slender legs allow it to cling to vertical surfaces: exterior walls, fences, tree trunks. Seen from a distance, its motionless posture can be misleading.
Then, its camouflage is simply astounding. Bark, twigs, lichen… it blends into its surroundings with the skill of an illusionist. We don’t see it… until we do, and then, surprise guaranteed!
