Kamitetep: A Little-Known and Intriguing Butterfly
Behind this intriguing name lies a species studied by specialists: Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis, a moth belonging to the Psychidae family. Yes, you read that right: a moth! But far from the image of a colorful butterfly fluttering in the sun, this one cultivates discretion.
What makes it so unusual? Its appearance in adulthood, especially in the females. Some have very small, almost invisible wings. As a result, it’s difficult to guess that it’s a moth. The males, on the other hand, have small wings, but remain much more understated than a flamboyant garden butterfly.
