To prepare flavored milk:
In a saucepan, heat the milk with the lemon zest and vanilla sugar until it comes to a boil.
To prepare the base cream:
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the sugar and cornstarch until smooth.
To thicken the cream:
Gradually whisk the egg yolk mixture into the hot milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from the heat and let cool.
