Do not open it or smell it. Many of these old bottles still contain activated charcoal filters and chemicals. Some filters from World War I and II contained asbestos, a carcinogenic substance. Even when empty, the dust they emit is dangerous if inhaled. Museum rule: if you find one like this, treat it as a historical artifact only. Don’t use it or open it. Place it in a well-ventilated area and keep it sealed. In short: this is a piece of history. It reminds us of the time when humanity developed chemical weapons and, at the same time, created protection against them. Have you ever seen a full gas mask? Its appearance is terrifying.
