This isn’t a gas cylinder or a bomb. This is a “Gas Mask Canister” used by German soldiers in World War II. It’s called a “Tragtier 30” or “Feuerhand.” Its purpose is to protect the gas mask when the soldier isn’t wearing it. It’s attached to the side with a strap. The cylinder has two layers of metal to prevent cold and moisture from getting in. 2. Why is it cylindrical? Engineering Reason: Pressure Distribution: The circular shape withstands impact better than a square one. If the soldier falls, it won’t break. Volume: The long shape provides enough space for the rubber mask to be rolled up and folded without getting crumpled.
