Beverly describes how she suddenly felt her pain vanish and saw herself hovering above her own body. On the ceiling, she spotted a being she perceived to be an angel; radiant, glowing, and male in appearance, yet without wings.
She recounted to author Kenneth Ring:
“I hardly had a moment to grasp the magnificent oddity of the situation – that I was me but not in my body – when a luminous being, enveloped in a shimmering white light, joined me.”
The being took her hand, and she recalls that they floated effortlessly through the window and towards the Pacific Ocean.
A passage into light
Hand in hand with the angel, Beverly felt herself being led towards a small, dark passageway.
“There, in front of me, was the living essence of the light. Within it, I felt an all-encompassing intelligence, wisdom, compassion, love, and truth.”
She portrayed the entity as neither male nor female—just a pure, perfect essence.
“It… encompassed everything, much like how white light includes all the colors of a rainbow when it passes through a prism. And deep within me, I experienced an immediate and astonishing recognition: I, even I, was in the presence of God.”
She posed every question she had ever pondered.
Feeling overwhelmed, Beverly shares that she faced this presence with every painful inquiry she had carried since her childhood, particularly the injustices she had witnessed in the world.
“I realized that God is aware of all your thoughts instantly and communicates telepathically. My mind felt exposed; in fact, I became pure thought.”
Then came what she refers to as a surge of understanding:
“I received more than just answers to my questions; all knowledge revealed itself to me, like the sudden blooming of countless flowers all at once.”
Before the experience began to fade, she remembers seeing what she called a “magnificent fire,” akin to the core of a star—a final vision she interpreted as a blessing.
A New Life, A New Faith
Beverly returned to her wounded body and to a life that had completely transformed. Once an atheist, she embraced Christianity wholeheartedly and eventually shared her story with the world.
Her experience of nearly dying has been highlighted in McCall’s magazine, a BBC documentary titled The Human Body, Israeli public radio, and the book Lessons From The Light, where Kenneth Ring described her story as “possibly the most moving in my entire collection.”
As a dedicated member of her church, Beverly still shares her story about the moment she feels she encountered God — not in the way she anticipated, but in a manner that transformed her perspective on life, death, and all that lies in between.
