“If you find a centipede in your house… what does that mean?”

What is a centipede? It’s an arthropod insect with many legs, very fast, and has a pair of venomous “claws” in front of it. The type in the picture looks like a Scolopendra and is poisonous. Why does it enter the house? The real meaning, not the superstitious one. People say in superstitions that it’s a “sign of envy,” but the scientific reason is: it has something to eat. Centipedes eat small insects: ants, cockroaches, mites, and spiders. If it enters your house, there’s something it’s eating. It likes damp and dark places: under the bathtub, in the bathroom, in the basement, behind the cupboard, and in damp wood. It enters through cracks: under the door, cracks in the wall, or through firewood. So, its meaning is: your house has dampness and other insects. Is it dangerous? For an adult: not very. Its bite hurts like a bee sting; it swells and reddens.
