The hectic pace of our daily lives has led us to seek time-saving alternatives when attending to our basic needs.

One of these needs, if not the most important, is food, since we get hungry or crave something to eat every three or four hours. But preparing food from scratch is difficult, so we opt for quickly heating it up.

One appliance that makes heating food easier is the microwave. But what you probably haven’t been told is that there’s a latent danger in reheating certain types of food. In this article, I’ll tell you which foods you shouldn’t reheat and the reasons why.
These foods are:
Processed meat
This food should also not be reheated, as some of the preservatives used are not suitable for microwave cooking and can cause adverse health effects.
Beets
Beets are rich in nitrates and should also not be reheated because the iron they contain oxidizes. Furthermore, vegetables reheated in the microwave lose nutrients and can also become carcinogenic.
Hard-boiled eggs
The steam produced by the appliance can cause the egg to explode.
Potatoes
Potatoes can produce Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause botulism.
Fruits
Fruits generally contain a lot of water. When heated, the water inside turns into steam, and without a proper escape route, the fruit can explode.
Chili peppers
Chili peppers contain capsaicin, responsible for their spicy flavor. This is released into the air, which can cause intense burning in the eyes and throat.
Breast milk
Microwaves don’t heat evenly. Some parts may seem cool or at a suitable temperature, but others may be too hot and cause burns.
Rice
This is because it contains spores of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning and can survive during cooking.
These foods should not be reheated in a microwave because they lose nutrients, change their composition, texture, and flavor, and can even cause food poisoning.
