Divers and shell collectors are the ones most likely to be harmed by it. Important safety warning: Do not touch it with your bare hands: even when dead, the barbs are still toxic. If it stings you: do not scratch or try to remove the barbs with your hands. Put tape over the area and gently peel it off to remove the small spines. Then apply vinegar or alcohol to neutralize the venom. If the pain persists, see a doctor. In aquariums: some fish enthusiasts keep them without realizing it. They eat coral and mollusks, destroying the entire tank. In short: their appearance is “poetic,” but their defenses are fierce. Nature gave them these “feathers” to defend themselves against predatory fish. Have you seen them in an aquarium or in the sea?
