The air is thin and heats up quickly when you open the door. The compressor works harder to compensate.
Frozen water stays cold for a long time. When you open the door and warm air enters, the water absorbs the heat and retains its coldness. The result: The compressor doesn’t work as often = a small saving on energy. Unless your fridge is quite full:
The food itself is thermal mass. A bottle of water won’t add anything. On the contrary, if you put hot water in, you’ll waste energy because the compressor will work harder to cool it down. 3
